Questa combinazione crea le condizioni per una serie di alterazioni fisiologiche gravi, note con il nome di sindrome metabolica: un insieme complesso di disturbi metabolici interconnessi che possono portare al diabete di tipo 2 e aumentare significativamente il rischio di infarto e ictus.<sup>\u00b9\u207b\u2074<\/sup>   <\/p>\n<p>Fortunatamente, esistono strategie basate su prove scientifiche per contrastare questo quadro clinico. Una delle pi\u00f9 promettenti \u00e8 l\u2019assunzione alimentare di antociani, pigmenti naturali appartenenti alla famiglia dei composti fitochimici secondari. Una recente revisione ha messo in luce il loro effetto benefico nel colon: gli antociani favoriscono lo sviluppo di batteri intestinali benefici, che possono contribuire a contrastare la sindrome metabolica.<sup>\u2075<\/sup>   <\/p>\n<h2>Cosa succede nella sindrome metabolica?<\/h2>\n<p>La sindrome metabolica \u00e8 caratterizzata da una serie di alterazioni note anche come &#8220;quartetto mortale&#8221;:<sup>\u00b9\u207b\u00b3<\/sup><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Accumulo di grasso<\/strong> nella zona addominale, con conseguente aumento della circonferenza vita<\/li>\n<li>Ridotta sensibilit\u00e0 all\u2019insulina (<strong>insulino-resistenza<\/strong>), che porta a un aumento dei livelli di glucosio nel sangue <\/li>\n<li><strong>Alterazione dei livelli lipidici nel sangue (colesterolo e trigliceridi elevati)<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Ipertensione arteriosa<\/strong>, che sovraccarica il sistema cardiovascolare<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Circa quattro persone su dieci tra i 50 e i 70 anni soddisfano i criteri per la diagnosi di sindrome metabolica.<sup>\u00b3<\/sup> Tra le possibili conseguenze si annoverano la steatosi epatica non alcolica (NAFLD), le malattie cardiovascolari e l\u2019insufficienza renale cronica. <\/p>\n<p>Il trattamento prevede solitamente una combinazione di cambiamenti nello stile di vita (alimentazione sana e attivit\u00e0 fisica), talvolta associata a terapia farmacologica. Recenti evidenze indicano che anche il microbiota intestinale pu\u00f2 rappresentare un importante alleato contro la sindrome metabolica.<sup>\u00b9\u207b\u2075<\/sup> <\/p>\n<h2>Il microbiota intestinale: un alleato per la salute<\/h2>\n<p>Il microbiota intestinale \u00e8 l\u2019insieme dei microrganismi che popolano il tratto gastrointestinale. \u00c8 composto principalmente da batteri, ma include anche virus e funghi in minor misura. Quando il microbiota \u00e8 in equilibrio, svolge un ruolo protettivo e modulante nei confronti della sindrome metabolica:  <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Contrasta <strong>l\u2019infiammazione cronica di basso grado<\/strong>, tipica del tessuto adiposo viscerale e <strong>responsabile<\/strong> dell\u2019aggravamento della sindrome <\/li>\n<li>Migliora il <strong>metabolismo di glucosio e lipidi<\/strong>, contribuendo a ridurre l\u2019insulino-resistenza <\/li>\n<li>Regola <strong>la sensazione di fame<\/strong> attraverso la produzione di messaggeri chimici<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Uno dei meccanismi chiave \u00e8 la produzione di acidi grassi a catena corta (SCFA), che abbassano il pH intestinale e favoriscono un ambiente intestinale sano.<sup>\u2075<\/sup> <\/p>\n<h2>I batteri benefici apprezzano gli antociani<\/h2>\n<p>La composizione del microbiota \u00e8 fortemente influenzata dalla dieta. Alcuni composti presenti negli alimenti stimolano selettivamente la crescita di batteri benefici. Tra questi figurano anche gli antiossidanti come gli antociani, pigmenti idrosolubili che conferiscono a frutti e fiori le loro intense tonalit\u00e0 rosse, viola, blu o nero-bluastre.<sup>\u2076\u207b\u00b9\u2070<\/sup>    <\/p>\n<p>Una recente revisione ha dimostrato che una parte significativa degli antociani ingeriti raggiunge il colon, dove svolge un\u2019azione prebiotica: inibisce la proliferazione di microrganismi potenzialmente nocivi e favorisce quella dei batteri utili. Questo effetto pu\u00f2 rappresentare una via nutrizionale per contrastare gli effetti della sindrome metabolica.<sup>\u2075<\/sup>  <\/p>\n<h2>Qual \u00e8 il ruolo degli antociani nelle piante?<\/h2>\n<ul><\/ul>\n<p>Le piante producono antociani per diversi motivi. <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Questi pigmenti naturali:\n<ul>\n<li>Proteggono i tessuti vegetali legandosi ai radicali liberi, molecole reattive che possono danneggiare le cellule e sono generate, ad esempio, dall\u2019esposizione ai raggi UV  <\/li>\n<li>Filtrano specifiche lunghezze d\u2019onda della luce solare ultravioletta, proteggendo le proteine e il DNA della pianta <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Attirano insetti impollinatori e animali frugivori, facilitando la riproduzione attraverso la dispersione dei semi<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Anche nell\u2019organismo umano, gli antociani assunti attraverso l\u2019alimentazione possono esercitare una funzione protettiva grazie alle loro propriet\u00e0 antiossidanti: aiutano a neutralizzare lo stress ossidativo causato dai normali processi metabolici.   <sup>11-14<\/sup><\/p>\n<h2>Alimenti ricchi di antociani<\/h2>\n<p>Una dieta ricca di frutta e verdura contiene naturalmente elevate quantit\u00e0 di antociani e dei loro precursori.
