Are you one of those people who love turmeric and ginger? Turmeric or curcuma (Curcuma longa) has an intense yellow-orange rhizome which, when ground into powder, gives the spice curry its typical golden yellow color. The ingredient curcumin – a polyphenol – is responsible for this. But turmeric can do more than just spice up your food: the tuber is also a component of many Ayurvedic applications. There it is often used together with ginger.

With rubyni CURCUMA PLUS we bundle their valuable ingredients. To do this, we rely on a so-called full-spectrum turmeric extract that preserves the natural plant matrix. We have combined this with a high-quality ginger extract. And all of this is combined in a practical capsule – making it easy to take the valuable ingredients without feeling the spiciness.

Curcumin, gingerols & co.: With the power of roots and tubers

Our diet provides us with various types of nutrients. These include

  • Macronutrients: proteins, fats and carbohydrates
  • Micronutrients: vitamins, minerals and trace elements
  • Secondary plant substances, such as polyphenols

The group of secondary plant substances comprises well over 100,000 substances that can be found in various foods. They fulfill very different tasks for plants: Some serve to protect against environmental influences, others give plants their color, fragrance or taste. These include the polyphenol curcumin, the colorant of the turmeric root. Gingerols and shogaols are also secondary plant substances. They are responsible for the pungent taste of the ginger tuber. 1

rubyni CURCUMA PLUS: What’s inside our capsules

rubyni CURCUMA PLUS is a dietary supplement made from three natural plant extracts:

  • The turmeric (Curcuma longa) for our high-quality extract comes from Kerala, a state in southern India. It is processed gently. The full-spectrum turmeric extract obtained preserves the natural matrix of the turmeric. As a result, it combines both water-soluble and fat-soluble components of the turmeric root.
The curcuminoids, the bioactive colorants, are particularly important. They are responsible for the intense yellow color. Their most important representative is curcumin. Our curcuma extract also contains essential oils, proteins and dietary fiber – reflecting the natural matrix.
  • Our ginger (Zingiber officinale) also comes from India. It is sustainably sourced and gently processed. An innovative formula and patented technology ensure that the natural ginger components in the extract are readily available. This improves the solubility and controlled release of fat-soluble ginger components.
The content of gingerols and shogaols has been deliberately chosen to be moderate and well tolerated: It is below the amounts recommended for sensitive groups of people. The product is therefore suitable for regular use.
  • The parsley leaf powder comes from German organic cultivation and is obtained from freshly harvested parsley (Petroselinum crispum). The leaves are carefully washed, de-stemmed and gently dried using warm air to preserve their natural color. The result is a high-quality, deep green powder that stands for natural and responsibly processed raw material quality.

Our extracts have two advantages over natural raw materials:

  • They are always of consistent quality and their ingredients are standardized to defined contents.
  • The capsules also offer a great way of taking the valuable ginger pungent substances – without the contents irritating the mucous membranes in your mouth.

Good to know:

Turmeric: The golden yellow tuber has many qualities

Turmeric or curcuma(Curcuma longa) belongs to the ginger family. Its rootstock, the rhizome, is similar to that of ginger, but is smaller and intensely orange in color. If you use the fresh root in the kitchen, turmeric stains strongly: hands, knives, chopping boards and worktops are also yellow-orange afterwards – so it is best to wear gloves when using it.

When dried and ground, the powder has an intense golden yellow color. This is due to the ingredient curcumin, which is not only an essential ingredient in the spice curry that gives it its typical yellow color. 2

The rootstock of turmeric contains around 1-5 percent curcuminoids, which belong to the polyphenols. The main component with 75-80 percent is curcumin. 3

Turmeric also contains essential oils and fiber. 2

Ginger: the invigorating pungent stimulant

Ginger(Zingiber officinale) is – unsurprisingly – also a ginger plant. Its rootstock (rhizome) has long been used in Far Eastern cuisine. However, the root has also been known in Central Europe since the Middle Ages. 4

Two pungent substances are responsible for the burning hot and spicy taste 5,6:

  • Gingerol: mainly contained in fresh ginger; it converts to shogaol when heated or dried
  • Shogaol: from the dried rhizome; it is even hotter than gingerol

If you take our capsules, you need not fear the spiciness, as you will not notice it. We have also deliberately chosen a moderate dosage so that even people with a sensitive stomach can take rubyni CURCUMA PLUS regularly.

Curcuma and ginger: the powerful duo from distant lands

Turmeric and ginger have a long tradition in the Far East and are an integral part of the diet there. Both ginger plants are particularly valued in India – the country of origin of our raw materials.

In Ayurveda, ginger is considered warming and stimulates the body’s fire (agni). The spicy-bitter turmeric is one of the most important spices in Ayurveda and is also said to have a warming effect. 6,7

Frequently asked questions /FAQs

1. what makes rubyni CURCUMA PLUS so special?

rubyni CURCUMA PLUS combines two very well-known components from the Far East: a full-spectrum extract of turmeric (Curcuma longa) from India, which provides the valuable natural colorant curcumin, and a ginger extract (Zingiber officinale). The highly concentrated, natural extract from the ginger root contains secondary plant substances such as gingerols and shogaols – two pungent substances that belong to the polyphenols. You can take them in the form of our capsules without irritating your oral mucosa.

2. how much curcumin can I take daily?

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) specifies an Acceptable Daily Intake (ADI) for curcumin: It is 3 mg curcumin per kilogram (kg) of body weight (bw) per day.
This value has been confirmed by the German Federal Office for Risk Assessment (BfR): The total intake of curcumin across all sources of intake in the diet (spice, food supplements and additives) should not exceed 3 mg/kg bw and day in the long term. Ideally, a maximum daily dose of 125 mg curcumin (corresponding to 2.1 mg/kg body weight for a person weighing 60 kg) should not be exceeded as a food supplement. 3

3. how many capsules of rubyni CURCUMA PLUS should I take daily?

For healthy adults, the recommended daily intake is one capsule of rubyni CURCUMA PLUS with plenty of water and without chewing – preferably with a meal. This should also contain healthy fats, as curcumin is fat-soluble. Your body can absorb this yellow pigment particularly well with fat. The 176 mg root extract provides you with 79 mg curcuminoids, 66 mg of which is curcumin. You also receive 60 mg of ginger root extract, which provides you with 16 mg of the two pungent substances gingerols and shogaols.

4. is rubyni CURCUMA PLUS vegan, lactose-free and gluten-free?

Yes, rubyni CURCUMA PLUS consists of 100 % vegan ingredients in a vegetable capsule shell (made from hydroxypropyl methylcellulose): The extract from the rootstock (rhizome) of turmeric or curcuma (Curcuma longa) provides you with bioactive curcuminoids, especially curcumin. Ginger extract (Zingiber officinale) contains the pungent substances gingerols and shogaols. All ingredients are also lactose- and gluten-free.

For more than 25 years, my focus has been on holistic, naturopathic medicine, with a particular interest in nutritional medicine and biological topics. During this time, I have studied current research findings (e.g. on orthomolecular medicine, epigenetics, nutrigenomics, phytotherapy) in depth. From the outset, I found rubyni's philosophy of using whole fruit extracts with the complete effect profile of the entire fruit matrix exciting and convincing. That is why I was happy to take on the task of developing new products that would contain rubyni but also, in the spirit of synergistic effects, other ingredients for a specific purpose.
