How much magnesium does your body need?

The German Nutrition Society (DGE) recommends an intake of 300 milligrams of magnesium per day for women and 350 milligrams for men.5 The European Union (EU) recommends a slightly higher daily intake of 375 milligrams for both sexes. This is the so-called nutrient reference value, or NRV for short. It serves as a guide in the manufacture of food supplements when it comes to the dosage of vitamins and minerals.6

The daily requirement for magnesium is particularly high with increased physical activity, elevated blood sugar levels and in stressful phases of life.2,4

The algae in rubyni Magnesium make our product something very special: They come from selected coastal regions in Europe and grow there in natural marine habitats. We pay particular attention to sustainability during the extraction process: the algae are harvested exclusively in protected coastal areas, whereby we attach great importance to the preservation of local ecosystems and the environmentally friendly use of resources. The raw material is carefully processed in France. The magnesium content of the extract is standardized in order to offer you consistent quality at all times.

Good to know:

The body cannot function without magnesium

Magnesium is the fourth most common mineral in the human body after calcium, sodium and potassium. Many processes in your body are only possible if you have a sufficient supply of this vital substance, as more than 600 metabolic processes rely on this mineral.1

For example, cell division and the body’s own production of protein (protein synthesis) only function smoothly with sufficient magnesium.1,2 Magnesium is also particularly important for the electrolyte balance and therefore the transmission of stimuli in the nervous system and muscle contraction – and therefore also for a regular heart rhythm, normal vascular tone and normal blood pressure are also dependent on a sufficient supply of this vital substance.

In addition, magnesium not only contributes to normal energy metabolism and thus to reducing tiredness and fatigue: The mineral is also needed for normal psychological function.1 A magnesium deficiency can promote depression, for example.7 If you are under stress, your muscles tense up and you need more magnesium.4 A sufficiently high magnesium level helps against such cramped muscles. The vital substance is also needed for the production of the sleep hormone melatonin.8

Magnesium also ensures healthy bones and teeth, for which it is an important building block.9 And did you know that your immune system can be impaired if your body has too little magnesium available?10

Magnesium is found in many foods that are part of a balanced diet: For example, the mineral is found in whole grain products, pulses, green leafy vegetables, nuts and seeds as well as fish and seafood.2

In addition, rubyni Magnesium can help you to cover your daily requirement of magnesium from a natural source.

As a biathlete, I have to be fit and able to perform at the drop of a hat. I had big problems with that in the past. My body was repeatedly weakened and I had to put up with many setbacks. When I was looking for a solution to support my immune system in the long term, my naturopath introduced me to elderberries as a superfood, among other things. I now take rubyni® with elderberries every day. The capsules are also super handy when I'm on the World Cup circuit. Rubyni® is a valuable aid for me during stressful competition phases and my immune system is finally back on top form.

Expert in nutritional medicine

For more than 25 years, my focus has been on holistic, naturopathic medicine, with a particular interest in nutritional medicine and biological topics. During this time, I have studied current research findings (e.g. on orthomolecular medicine, epigenetics, nutrigenomics, phytotherapy) in depth. From the outset, I found rubyni's philosophy of using whole fruit extracts with the complete effect profile of the entire fruit matrix exciting and convincing. That is why I was happy to take on the task of developing new products that would contain rubyni but also, in the spirit of synergistic effects, other ingredients for a specific purpose.
