How much zinc does your body need?
The human body cannot store zinc in large quantities. Therefore, this trace element should be consumed regularly through the diet. Zinc is found in both animal-based foods—such as meat, eggs, and dairy products—and plant-based foods. These include, for example, legumes, whole grains, and nuts.2,3,4
However, there is one thing to keep in mind when eating a meal that includes legumes or grains: While these foods contain zinc, they also contain certain chemical compounds called phytates. These can bind to zinc in the digestive tract, thereby reducing the absorption of this trace element from food.4
The German Nutrition Society (DGE) recommends a daily zinc intake of 7–10 mg for women and 11–16 mg for men—depending, among other factors, on dietary phytate intake.3
The European Union (EU) specifies a uniform nutrient reference value (NRV) of 10 mg of zinc per day for both genders.5
Individual zinc requirements can vary depending on diet and lifestyle.

rubyni® Zinc at a Glance
rubyni Zinc is a dietary supplement containing zinc derived from an extract of the leaves of the guava (Psidium guajava), a small evergreen tree. We source the leaves from certified organic farms.
The process we use to extract the substance from the leaves is water-based and gentle. The zinc content is standardized to ensure consistent quality. In the capsules, the trace element is combined with plant-based ingredients.
We use the Brazilian acerola cherry (Malpighia glabra) as the source of the vitamin C in our capsules. It is one of the fruits with the highest vitamin C content in the world. Only the best fruits, which are gently freeze-dried, make it into our organic acerola fruit powder.
We have added organic carrot powder from Germany to rubyni Zinc. The powder is of raw, harvest-fresh quality.
Good to know:
Zinc—a trace element essential for numerous bodily functions
Zinc is a trace element, which means it is present in your body only in small amounts. Nevertheless, your body needs it for numerous and very diverse processes. An adequate supply is important for various tissues, for example: Zinc helps maintain normal skin, hair, and nails.1,6
You’ve probably heard that zinc contributes to the normal functioning of the immune system. But did you know that it also supports normal cognitive function? The term “cognition” encompasses various processes involved in information processing, such as perception and thinking. These processes can occur consciously or unconsciously.1,7

In addition, zinc is a component of many enzymes. This means that this trace element is involved in numerous metabolic processes. For example, zinc contributes to the normal metabolism of macronutrients—that is, the carbohydrates, fats, and proteins you consume in your diet.1,8
Last but not least, zinc contributes to normal fertility and reproduction in both men and women. In addition, this trace element plays a role in cell division, a fundamental process for numerous functions in your body.1

Biathlete
As a biathlete, I have to be fit and able to perform at the drop of a hat. I had big problems with that in the past. My body was repeatedly weakened and I had to put up with many setbacks. When I was looking for a solution to support my immune system in the long term, my naturopath introduced me to elderberries as a superfood, among other things. I now take rubyni® with elderberries every day. The capsules are also super handy when I'm on the World Cup circuit. Rubyni® is a valuable aid for me during stressful competition phases and my immune system is finally back on top form.
